Speaking Topics

Topic List and Descriptions

A PLACE TO RUN TO: HOW TO FIND REFUGE IN GOD.
This is the topic of Joan's latest book with Moody Press. Framed by medieval castle imagery and structured around the Four Rs of Refuge, this series is geared for those needing immediate, tangible, everyday respite: young mothers overwhelmed with parenting; active women burnt out by busyness; weary ministry leaders stretched too thin; or working moms tired of trying to be it all. Each part of this four-part series is a 30-60 minute presentation.

HOPE IN THE HEARTACHE: 8 STEPS TO HANDLING PARENTAL PAIN.
Every child faces areas of weakness or disappointment, and parents hurt deeply for them. How do we manage our pain? What do we do when our hearts are breaking over a daughter in trouble or our teens rejection of God? How do we handle the chronic pain that goes with parenting a lonely kid, a shy kid, an underachieving kid, or a child with disabilities or chronic illness? This series discusses eight practical things hurting parents can do to manage their heartache and find hope-filled encouragement. This topic can be presented as a single 90-minute seminar, or can be divided into four 20-30 minute talks.

RUNNING IN CIRCLES OR RUNNING THE RACE?
We live in a culture that applauds busyness. Many of us are always on the run, but are we headed anywhere? Are we running aimlessly, or have we discovered the joy and fulfillment of running with purpose? This seminar focuses specifically on how to become women of vision: women who run the race of faith proactively with purpose, instead of running through life reacting to every whim, crisis, or demand. Using the acronym VISION, listeners are given six specific steps for recapturing purpose in their daily lives. This is a highly adaptable topic and can be condensed into one 90-minute seminar, or can be divided into three or four 30-50 minute segments over a weekend.

SHARING TEA AND TALENT: DISCOVER THREE T's.
Did you know that there is a hidden treasure in every talent we possess? Have you ever fallen prey to the traps of talent? Do you know the task God has for your talent? This single session, 40-minute talk uses a discussion of talent to teach us about ourselves and God. This message is suitable for seeker-sensitive women's teas and luncheons.

HAVE A HEART! SIX C'S OF EFFECTIVE MINISTRY LEADERSHIP.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a leader God can use? Do you want to learn practical skills that will enhance your ability to impact those you serve? Discover six essentials for every ministry leader. This 75-minute session is ideal for ministry leadership and small group training seminars.

THE RESOLUTION SOLUTION! SIX PRINCIPLES FOR EFFECTIVE GOAL SETTING.
Are you tired of setting goals and not reaching them? Do your New Year's resolutions seem impossible to keep? Discover the key to successful goal-setting. Ideal for seasonal settings (start of a new academic year, January events, ministry kick-offs, etc...), this 90-minute interactive workshop provides specific tools for setting and acheiving your goals!

CARING COMMUNICATION.
Healthy relationships, whether personal, professional, or ministry-related, cannot grow without healthy communication. This seminar will give you a "tool kit" of practical communication skills including, verbal and non-verbal door openers, nonverbal attending skils, and active listening techniques. This presentation also takes a "tongue-in-cheek" look at 8 imposters of caring communication that rob us of the ability to genuinely and lovingly relate to one another. As a 2-hour interactive workshop, this topic is ideal for ministry leadership training.

  • Speaking Fees

FEE SCHEDULE FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND MINISTRIES:

Unlike many speakers, instead of a firm “fee schedule” for non-profit organizations, Joan provides a suggested
fee guideline that is open to negotiation. To determine her fee, Joan encourages planning committees to prayerfully weigh her fee schedule in light of their organization's ability to pay, the size of their event, the length of her talk(s), and her talks’ importance to the event.  She then encourages committees to make her an offer.

Many non-profit organizations cannot afford industry-standard speaking fees, but Joan doesn't want cost to prohibit them from obtaining her services. Joan also believes, however, that a worker is due her wage (Luke 10:7; 1 Timothy 5:18).  Joan provides professionalism, expertise, and depth in her presentations, and sets her fees accordingly.

What follows is Joan’s recommended speaking fee schedule for non-profit organizations and events.  Please note that the per-person charges listed recoup Joan’s incurred expenses for photocopying, participant packets, novelty handouts, etc.…

WEEKEND OR OVERNIGHT RETREAT (with three to four sessions):

Minimum Base Fee:  $500.00 or $2.00 per person per talk (whichever is greater) PLUS standard expenses (travel, food, lodging, etc...)

E.G.: If you have 100 women attending and Joan speaks four times, her base fee* would be

$800 ($2.00 X 100 women X 4 talks).  If you have 40 women attending and Joan speaks four

times, her base fee* would be $500 (the $2.00 per-person-per-talk fee works out to be only

$320.00, which is less than the $500 minimum base fee).

SINGLE TALK AT A ONE-SESSION EVENT (35 minutes and under):

Minimum Base Fee:  $125.00 or $1.50 per person (whichever is greater) PLUS standard expenses (travel, food, lodging, etc...).

E.G.: If you have a 100 women attending, Joan’s base fee* would be $150 ($1.50 X 100 women). If you have 40 women attending, her base fee* would be $125.00 (the per person charge works out to be only $60, which is less than the $125.00 minimum).

SINGLE TALK AT A ONE-SESSION EVENT (40 to 75 minutes):

Minimum Base Fee: $175.00 or $2.00 per person (whichever is greater) PLUS standard expenses (travel, food, lodging, etc...).

E.G.: If you have a 100 women attending, Joan’s base fee* would be $200.00 ($2.00 X 100 women). If you have 40 women attending, her base fee* would be $175.00 (the per person charge works out to be only $80.00, which is less than the $175.00 minimum).

    FOR A MULTI-SESSION, SINGLE-DAY EVENT:

Minimum Base Fee:  $75.00 per session (40-minute avg.), or $1.00 per person per talk (whichever is greater), plus standard expenses (travel, food, lodging, etc...)

E.G.:  If you have 100 women attending and Joan speaks twice, her base fee* would be $200 ($1.00 X 100 women X 2 talks).  If you have 40 women attending and she speaks twice, Joan’s base fee* would be $150 ($75 X 2 sessions), since the per-person-per-talk rate for 40 women works out to be only $80, which is less than the minimum.

ALSO NOTE: At most speaking venues (where appropriate), Joan also requests the opportunity to sell her books, audiotapes, seminar packets, and other related resources, and to display information about her ministry.

*All base fees do NOT include travel, food, lodging, and other normal expenses.
