JOAN ESHERICK

Christian Author, Speaker, & Freelance Writer

Who is Joan?
Joan, in her office at her computer

When she's not reading, studying, speaking, teaching, exercising, romping with her five Labradors, or enjoying her husband (and college-aged children when they're home), Joan spends her time in front of the computer screen: writing, editing, e-mailing, blogging (about her Labs, about teaching, about writing, and about her soul).

HER MINISTRY BACKGROUND:
A Christian since 1978, Joan began serving Christ over 25 years ago in campus and outdoor ministries to high school and college students. She's continued serving in a variety of ministry leadership positions since, and is currently the Women's Ministries Teacher Coordinator at Calvary Church in Souderton, Pennsylvania, where she trains other teachers, teaches a weekly women's Bible study, and disciples women one-on-one.

HER PROFESSION:

Joan is a full-time freelance writer,  a professional speaker, and published author whose freelance work has appeared in a number of Christian periodicals including Discipleship Journal, Pray!, Living with Teenagers, Today's Christian Woman and MOODY magazines. She's written or contibruted to twenty-five non-fiction books, including "OUR MIGHTY FORTRESS: Finding Refuge in God" (Moody Press, 2002), and has developed curriculum, women's Bible study material, and small group leader training material. She is a member of AWSA (Advanced Writers & Speakers Association), The Author's Guild, and the Evangelical Press Association.

HER PERSONAL BACKGROUND AND CHALLENGES:
Joan lives with Don, her husband and best friend of 25 years, and their three adult children in rural southeastern Pennsylvania. Rounding out the family are four Labrador retrievers (Baxter, Ridge, Elsie, and Kenay) and a silly cat named "Snickers."

Joan knows the value of a deep, abiding relationship with God as she and her husband have faced a number of parenting challenges: their oldest son's stroke and disabilities, their second son's death, their daughter's giftedness, and their youngest son's chronic intestinal disorder. Her children, and their issues, have brought great blessing to Joan as God uses their difficulties to teach her of His love and faithfulness. It is His hope, His peace, and His comfort that Joan offers to others.

HER MISSION:
The purpose of Joan's ministry is to help others deepen their relationships with God, to ground others in God's Word, to help believers practically apply God's word to everyday life, and to give hope to those who are struggling. Her goal as a writer and speaker is to give others a confident trust in God that establishes them as "trees planted by the water, that ...[do] not fear when the heat comes; ...[they have] no worries in a year of drought, and never [fail] to bear fruit," Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV).

HER HOBBIES AND INTERESTS:
Joan enjoys reading, blogging, gardening, hiking, bird-watching, exercise walking, baking, and giggling with her husband and college-aged children.
